Please understand that our receptionists are not medically trained and cannot answer any questions about your results. They may however pass messages from a GP.
When telephoning the surgery about results please call after 2.00pm as the phones are less busy in the afternoons.
If there is a problem with your test result, the surgery may telephone you. It is therefore important that you keep us informed of up to date contact details. Please let us know of any change of name, address or telephone number.
In order to comply with Confidentiality Protocols we are only able to release test results to the patient, or where prior arrangements have been made, to the patient's nominated representative.
Blood and Urine Tests
Usually, blood and urine test results are available within one week. Some special blood tests make take longer.
Please telephone the surgery a week after the test is performed to see if the results have been received. The receptionist may confirm that the results are satisfactory or advise you to see a GP to discuss the results.
Cervical Smear Tests
Smear test results can take from 6 to 12 weeks. The Primary Care Trust (PCT) will write to you with the result and the practice will receive a copy.
If you are concerned that the result has been delayed please telephone the practice to check for likely availability.
Specialised X-rays and Ultra Sound Scans
These and results from other tests performed during hospital out patient attendances my take up to two weeks.
If you have been told by a member of the hopsital staff to see your GP for results please telephone the surgery to ensure we have received them before asking for an appointment to see the GP.
