Medical Information
Following the tragic death of a student in Coventry after having an HPV vaccination the Primary Care Trust recommended that no more HPV vaccinations should be administered until it had been established that the vaccine was safe.
A full investigation has been conducted and results of a post mortem carried out on Tuesday 29th October revealed a very rare and serious underlying medical condition which was the cause of death.
We recommend that all parents, including parents of children with common underlying conditions such as asthma, epilepsy and diabetes should have their daughters immunised against HPV and have resumed vaccinating patients in line with current guidance.
We would like to reassure patients that somewhere in the region of 1.5 million HPV vaccinations have been carried out nationwide with only minor side effects and the practice has checked its stock of vaccine and does not have, nor has it had, any vaccines belonging to the same batch as that which was in used in the recent incident.
