Godiva Clinical Commissioning Group

Other Useful Information

Godiva Clinical Commissioning Group, formed in 2010 to represent about 50% of Coventry patients, has taken over from Godiva PBC, an organistion formed in 2007 to manage the then government's Practice Based Commissioning initiative.

The current government changed the focus to GP led commissioning, which led to the split of Godiva PBC into two organisations, Godiva CCG and InSpires CCG. Chris Mullett, the Practice Business Development Manager is a director of Godiva CCG. Both commissioning groups are working closely with both NHS Coventry and the Council. They also cooperate to deliver services across Coventry, and services available to patients will not be affected by which consortium their practice belongs to. Examples of this are the Residential Care Homes Services, administered by Godiva (and hosted at Park Leys) and the Referral Support Service. Both these services are provided Coventry wide.

Godiva CCG will take over responsibility for commissioning services to the patients it represents in April 2013, following plans originally launched in July 2010 in the Government White Paper: Liberating the NHS.

The DoH has published a short information sheet for patients explaining the changes which are taking place in the NHS: Commissioning for Patients (Dec 2010).

Further information is available in the following documents:

Godiva's objective is to ensure that health care in Coventry is commissioned in line with local and national objectives. GPs will take a major role in policy decisions and the delivery of healthcare. Patients and other healthcare professionals will also be represented in decision making processes. There is also a patient representative the board of Godiva PBC.

The structure of Godiva is under review following the recent Listening Exercise, further patient representation and health professionals from other sectors will soon be joining the GPs on the board. Latest information is on the Godiva web site.

As a practice we are committed to ensuring that changes in the NHS will allow us to continue to develop and deliver high quality services for our patients. Drs Horn and Girvan are leading teams to commission for Long Term Conditions and Womens Health respectively and Dr Smithers is on a working party involved in delivery of Mental Health Services, although these are not currently part of the commissioning agenda.
